I was born in Atlanta in 1970, to parents who immigrated from Cuba and Ecuador who met in the U.S. My father was in apartment renovation and spent the majority of his life working in residential construction and property maintenance. When I left high school, I went directly to work for my father doing manual labor. It was hard work, yet I felt inspired by the skills these men had. They worked for subcontractors and could lay brick or pour cement better than anyone I had ever seen. I wanted to learn how to do all of it, so I asked for more skilled work: sheetrock, tile, carpentry. I was fascinated to watch the process of creating something from nothing, to make something old into something new again. I quickly climbed the ladder doing a variety of work in several different trades, and eventually was hired by a home building company in 1998 as an Assistant Builder. I continued to build on my success and by 2002 was the Project Manager overseeing subdivision construction for various home builders all over Atlanta. By 2004, I was looking for something new; I am naturally outgoing and was always very engaged with would-be buyers that roamed the construction sites, and really enjoyed talking with them about their interests and concerns. Not long after that, I was hooked on real estate and have never looked back. I was going to do whatever I could to succeed. I started taking online classes at work, in my truck of all places! After 6 months of this, I finally managed to squeeze out the time of day to finish and got my real estate license. With my background in home construction, I was drawn toward onsite sales and the relationships I had to build over the years. Those friendships opened doors where I could draw on my experience to help home buyers through a new construction purchase. I was on fire and things were rolling.
As in every good success story, there was a drastic descent. Two thousand and six came. It was a terrible time to be a new agent—I took every training course available in sales strategy, networking, and marketing, anything I could do to help better serve my clients. I had as much success as could be found in an economic downturn, but it was like being a doctor and nobody ever getting sick. The new home construction business in Atlanta was dead. I moved my license to general real estate to learn all I could about the foreclosure and short sale business, but with no established background in that specialty, clients came few and far between. I knew that 85% of all realtors never made it past the first 5 years in a normal economy. With just enough business to manage and lots of free time, I made it my focus to continue training in as many areas as I could get my hands on. By 2011, things started to open up again and I received an opportunity to work with another home builder. I brought all the lessons I had learned during the economic downturn and became a top producer for 5 years in a row. In 2016, I knew that I could no longer expose myself (or my family) to the same potential risks as I had done 10 years earlier. As a result, RCM Brokers was born.
Today, RCM Brokers is a small team of specialized realtors that service buyers and sellers alike, catering to the northwest Atlanta real estate market.
